Here's wishing
Bish Denham and her new book,
A Lizard's Tale, a great launch.
From the moment he hatches, Marvin P. Tinkleberry knows he is destined for greatness. For one, he has a marvelous, well-groomed tail. For another he can puff out his throat pouch in the most spectacular way. Maybe the other lizards in his colony don’t take him seriously, but he knows the truth. It lives in the marrow of his bones; he’s going to be a hero.
When a feral cat threatens the lives of all who live at Stone Wall in the Garden by the Sea, Marvin knows it’s HIS destiny to get rid of the fearsome beast. Traveling Over the Hill to find help should be as easy as snapping up a sleeping moth. But it doesn’t take long for Marvin to see that the world beyond Stone Wall is not the same as his pampered life back at the garden. From the deadly Sucker Cactus Forest to deadly mongooses, danger lurks around every corner and Marvin will have to decide if he’s willing to be the hero he’s long bragged about being.

A few years ago, my niece was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was thirty with two small children. If she hadn't gone in for her annual mammogram, those children would be without their mother today. As my gram always said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Get your check up. Now.

Here's my quote for the day, which I think is right on for Survive And Thrive.
"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they have none."
Alice Walker.
You have the power to prevent a lot of health issues from becoming life threatening. Early detection is the key.
Congratulations both Cathrina and Bish!
ReplyDeleteGlad your niece caught it early.
Thanks for participating in the blogfest.
Thanks, Alex!
DeleteOne of the more worthwhile hops!
DeleteGreat plug for the annual mamogram. I mean, who really wants to get it. But it is so necessary. It saved my mother-in-law's life. Thanks for the reminder, C.Lee.
ReplyDeleteThey're not the most pleasant experience, but non-invasive and life-saving.
DeleteBish's story sounds like it should make for an adventurous read. And Cathrina's is surely filled with intrigue and suspense. Congrats to both on their releases :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your quote, C Lee. You're right, it fits well with the Survive and Thrive bloghop.
It's a story for all ages, Angela!
DeleteBish's story was a fun to read. I haven't had time to read Cathrina's yet.
DeleteLoved that quote, too.
That reminds me that I'm due for the yearly breast smashing. (As my friend calls it.)
ReplyDeleteYou'll enjoy Bish's story - it's as adorable as the last one.
Thanks, Diane!
DeleteIt is a "smashing experience."
DeleteA good reminder that breast cancer can strike at any age. Glad for your niece.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a long haul, but she's alive and with her children.
DeleteI'm so glad your niece is a survivor! Thanks for sharing my book and giving it such a spectacular review!
ReplyDeleteGlad to have you here, Bish. Always a pleasure.
DeleteGrats to Bish and Cathrina! Wow, super scary about breast cancer. I'm glad they caught it in time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Loni. It was super scary.
DeleteHi Lee - Bish's book looks amazing .. I suggested to Lenny he might get it - we'll see ... and I have it to read - I think! Cathrina's seems to be stretching my blood-letting thoughts ...
ReplyDeleteYes - getting those check-ups done are so necessary and I'm so pleased to read she survived ... cheers Hilary
Great idea about Lenny. Connections make for an interesting life, don't they?
DeleteHi Lee .. just found out Bish sent Lenny a copy, so that's great news ... H
DeleteMy mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer, and they caught it early with a mammogram. It saved her life!
ReplyDeleteI never miss that appointment. Glad your mom didn't miss hers either.
DeleteHi, Lee,
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the hop and sharing your story. Thankfully your niece was smart and had her yearly testing!
CONGRATS to Bish, what a charming tale and cover...
AND CONGRATS to Cathrina on her newest book! ALL the best ladies!
Super idea, Michael. Glad to be a part of this.
DeleteThe book excerpts sound great and hope the Lizard finds his courage and hope the angel is on her side. Early detection is key. We human beings often negate the little aches and pains etc... out of fear. I have seen many older people do this because they don't want to hear the word cancer and when they finally go, it is too late. Listen to your body, get the detection done early and if a Dr doesn't listen drop him like a wet potato and go to another who will listen
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a second opinion. Sometimes a third doesn't hurt either.
DeleteI saw this book on another blog:) It looks pretty neat!
ReplyDeleteBish is making the rounds today.
DeleteCongratulations to Cathrina and Bish! That's a great reminder for us to get our mammograms, I'm glad your niece caught it early.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quote! We do have the power. :)
S.K. Anthony: Time Management Tips
That quote came to me on exactly the right day. :-)
DeleteGlad to hear about the early detection...definitely important to being checked regularly!
ReplyDeleteThis hop is excellent to remind us.
DeleteVery cute story premise and cover for Bish! And I love the floaty golden feathers on Cathrina's cover. Congrats to both of you.
ReplyDeleteHope they both have wonderful sales in their future.
DeleteSo glad your niece was diagnosed early! Love that Lizard cover and the story sounds cute.
ReplyDeleteHer covers are really so sharp and interesting.
DeleteSo agree about the mammograms. I have a huge history of breast cancer in my family and never miss mine.
ReplyDeleteGood to know your history and be prepared to take preventative measures if we find a disease is in our family.
DeleteI think my gran used to say something like 'a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' ... or something like that! Good to know it was successful for your niece and her family :) And, both books sound great! x
ReplyDeleteOur grans must have read the same book. Mine said that all the time.
DeleteIt's kewl that I'm seeing this hop every where today. Makes its presence even more appealing. I agree about the mammograms, except for one thing. I wish they could find the cause and eliminate from our lives forever.
ReplyDeleteYes to finding the cure. Let's hope that happens in our future.
DeleteCongrats to Bish and Cathrina!
ReplyDeleteWow! It's a good thing she had the mammogram. Usually women don't get the test that young, unless there is family history or they discover a lump.
She was lucky to find the first lump and then went for help.
DeleteTwo great new books! I love your quote from Alice Walker. Kudos to your niece.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked Alice's quote. I thought it was perfect for this post.
DeleteYour quote from Alice Walker is so uplifting. Thanks for including it.
ReplyDeleteGreat to have you stop by, Diane. Thanks.
DeleteMy appointment is next week :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the authors - both books sound great!
Good for you!
DeleteThose check ups are crucial. Breast cancer seems to be hitting the young these days. :(
ReplyDeleteThose books sound awesome and the covers look awesome.
It does seem to be coming up in younger people. Very scary,
DeleteCongrats to Bish and Cathrina
ReplyDeleteThose check ups are soooo important.
Thanks, Lynda. This hop has reminded me to be more diligent about those check ups.
DeleteI'm glad they caught it! Was she already doing mammograms due to family history? I've asked when to start mammograms, and they've said not yet (I'm in my mid-thirties.) Both books sound interesting!
ReplyDeleteGuess you just have to go with your doctor's recommendation.
DeleteHappy your niece is doign well. And great quote!
ReplyDeleteYvonne
Thanks, YV. Glad you liked Alice's quote, too.
DeleteWishing Bish all the best! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote! We have so much power for the direction of our physical and mental well being that can take us well into our golden years.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for participating in the Blogfest!
My pleasure. It was a super idea.
DeleteAnd good lick to Bish with everything!
ReplyDeleteI'm bummed I missed out on this blog hop. Guess I'll have to settle with tweeting everyone's posts. ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't do 'em all!
DeleteMarvin sounds marvelous! Yay for Bish! And wow is Cathrina's cover gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSorry I missed the fest. I was too bogged in deadline land last week to hear about it. Only so many hours...
Marvin was a fun character.
DeleteI hope your niece is doing better, Lee. Early detection is KEY. Sadly, my best friend's mom died from breast cancer last summer because she refused to see the doctor, even after her children told her to. By the time she finally went, it was too late and the cancer was in its later stages.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote you shared. I think it reveals so many issues when dealing with our inner power... healthy, becoming a success, bullying, etc. We must learn to embrace our inner power so we can live our lives to the fullest; happy, healthy and successful.
What a sad story. Playing ostrich doesn't do much for us, does it? Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
DeleteA Lizard's Tale sound absolutely adorable and I love the cover.
ReplyDeleteI think the illustrator is very talented.
DeleteI don't like lizards, but A Lizard's Tail sounds cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm a lizard fan. They keep all the snails out of my garden.
Deletehope your niece is all fine now!
ReplyDeleteShe's doing great, DEZ!
DeleteCongrats to Bish and Cathrina! I make sure to get checked every year. It's so important for not only the women themselves, but for their children and everyone who loves them.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right. It's not only about the person; it's about those who will be affected by their ill health or death.
DeleteYour Gram is right!! Congrats to Bish, and thanks for promoting my cover!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were here today!
DeleteI just had my mammogram--I always get it right before my birthday. It makes me feel better about turning a year older, since I'm one of those people who always has a ton of cysts and has to go for the ultrasound.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I might steal that one, then I'll be sure to remember.
DeleteYou're so right about getting those mammograms and having other checkups to catch a problem early.
ReplyDeleteWahoo for Bish! And I LOVE Cathrina's cover.
ReplyDeleteCancer is such a beast. It breaks my heart every time I hear about someone diagnosed, but I suppose if you catch it early, it is highly beatable. Here's to survivors!
Unleashing the Dreamworld
Congrats on the new releases, Bish and Cathrina.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Lee. Very true.
Bish's new book sounds cute!
ReplyDeleteA Lizard's Tail sounds like such a cute book!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, thank goodness your niece caught it in time. I agree, it's always best to be cautious, especially when it comes to health!
Ooh yeah, I agree with you on the necessity to keep an eye out for breast cancer.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bish and Catharina!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they caught your niece's breast cancer early, and wish her continued good health. Lots of great quotes, but your gram's is my favorite! Congrats to Bish and Cathrina!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Those are cute books. I'm glad the early check up saved a lot of heart ache for your niece.
